OSWANZ Zoom Webinar - Psychosocial Support and Education Needs of People Diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer, and the Health Professionals Who Care for Them

At the completion of this webinar, you will have an understanding of the unmet psychosocial needs of people diagnosed with HNC, highlighted by four publications based on the findings of Dr Chandrika Gibson’s PhD. Findings point to the need for trauma-informed communication, and this presentation will include simple strategies for health professionals.

Chandrika Gibson

Chandrika Gibson is a pioneer in the fields of integrative oncology, mind body medicine, and yoga therapy. Her qualifications include Master of Wellness (RMIT), C-IAYT Certified International Yoga Therapist, and she completed her PhD in 2022 at Curtin University. Chandrika has worked extensively with people diagnosed with cancer in her roles at the Cancer Council of WA, Solaris Cancer Care, and Breast Cancer Care WA where she has delivered yoga and mindfulness training and presentations for patients, carers, volunteers, staff and health professionals. Her Master’s research explored the impact of yoga on psychological and physiological stress and relaxation responses in cancer survivors, and her PhD investigated the psychosocial education and support needs of people diagnosed with head and neck cancer. Her research has been published in high impact, peer reviewed journals. Chandrika owns Surya Health, a studio and clinic in Perth’s northern suburbs where she sees private clients and runs regular classes, workshops and retreats. She is a co-founder of Wisdom Yoga Institute where she trains yoga teachers to become evidence-informed Yoga Therapists.
