OSWANZ Zoom Webinar – Gender Identity in Cancer

11/05/23 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

LGBTTQIA+ patients are at a higher risk for certain cancers yet access relevant screening and healthcare less frequently than cisgender, heterosexual women. This can be attributed to fears of discrimination, feeling unrepresented, and past experiences of disrespect from healthcare professionals. As social workers we have responsibilities to advocate for change and challenge the status quo. This webinar will explore the use of inclusive language, changes to the physical environment, and practical changes to how we undertake our work and engage with LGBTTQIA+ patients.

Lizzie Waring

Lizzie’s current professional role is with Te Whatu Ora, Capital Coast & Hutt Valley in Cancer Support: Psychology and Social Work.
