Cas graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts/Diploma Social Studies. After graduation, she worked in the original Sexual Assault counselling service, and at the Melville Clinic mental health service, the first community mental health service in Victoria.

She enjoys challenge and developing services, and after migrating to warmer climes, has frequently been the initial psychosocial worker employed at an agency, including at Carers’ Queensland in Cairns, as trauma counsellor at Migrant Settlement Services in Cairns, and at Gordonvale Palliative Care Hospital, where she has worked as a senior social worker for the past six years.
